Inspiration

My Final Major Project on the Lincoln School of Art and Design was about inspiration. I wanted to find out what inspires people that don’t necessary have a inspirational job. To do so creating a book that can be of use for designers, and general people to gain inspiration. To get your mind working, the book is French folded. You can see the information about the people that inspired the pages on the inside of them. Every few pages there is a page with a quote about inspiration that gives the book a narrative. It has a hard cover, covered with wrapping paper, which gives the book a natural feel.

Wait & See

This years yearbook is all about anticipation. The title of the book is Wait & see. The brief said to make a graphic piece that relates to anticipation. I choose to illustrate the way a tiger hunts. He hunts in three phases, and every phase is a delicate anticipation game. I tried to illustrate this with a bit of an abstract tiger, which contains the three phases of hunting.

Situationist International

The situationist international were a group of politicians and artists that were very keen on telling everyone what they thought of the current situations. Social and political. They wanted to change te way people looked at it. Create a poster (series) that can be hand rendered / painted. And spread in one night. This poster must reflect your opinion, and activate others to follow in that opinion. I choose to reflect 2 things. The earth, its deterioration and gun-crime. I handrendered both the posters, used black and white images to keep things nice and clean. I tried to address the public directly with the pointing hand and gun.

D&AD: PJ’s

PJ smoothies is a brand of smoothies that wants to appeal to young adults, but are a lot cheaper than their competitors. And the smoothies are made with 100% fruit. The brief said to make between 1 and 3 outdoor posters for the brand. You had to make sure it illustrated the value for money that you get with PJ’s. I choose to do this by means of large pictures containing young, healthy, nice looking people with tattoos of the different flavours of smoothies available. The tattoos contain all the valuable information about the brand and about the smoothies. It illustrates the love people have for this smoothie.

This got me an actual D&AD in-book award.

Don’t panic poster: Dreams

Again a one word brief. This word was dreams. Dreams made me think of a song by artist called kyteman. Called stand for something. What he says in this song is that you have to stand for your dreams, fight for them, and let now one tell you different. The illustration on this poster is sort of a graffiti style typographic piece.

Don’t panic poster: Chaos

This is a one word brief. The word for this brief was Chaos. Chaos always starts in the brain. Chaos is in fact an experience. When you stay calm no matter what there won’t be chaos. So it’s a mental thing. Therefore I used the shapes that the brain has to illustrate an A2+ poster. I liked it to be a blow up because if I’d illustrated the brain itself, there would be no chaos on this poster.

ISTD: 3 Minutes

The only rules set for this assignment were to create something, related to three minutes. I used a single A1 sheet, no ink. Just a scalpel and a lot of time to create a folding poster. That looks attractive and stands out wherever you would place it. After this poster I created a foldout book that fits this theme. I used letterpress letters to give it a natural look.

Flatland

Flatland is a 1884 science fiction novella by Edwin A. Abott. The first book had a black cover, with a subtle title cutout. It’s flat but still creates an extra dimension. On the inside every chapter has it’s own shape, the first chapter is a cube, and the second a pyramid. The second book is a pentagon, with a visual typographic effect. So it creates another dimension. The pentagon’s chapters are each bound on a different side, so you’ll keep on turning the book as you will be reading it.

Book Group

The book that we created should contain most of the students Graphic design of the class of 2006-09. It has a blank cover, to create a secret, and curious look. The content consists of spreads of front- and back doors. But because our pages are French folded, there is a little secret inside. If you cut through the perforated French fold You’ll see work of students inside. This work is related to a secret, personal or fictional. The doors are black and white to give more of a narrative to the inside and to keep a nice flow through out the content.

Apple-Z

Russian Roulette was a one word brief. Mine was Apple-Z. I created a poster of an alphabet of Apple key combinations. The colors are linked to the old Apple logo. The font used is Lucida Grande, because it’s the standard font used in finder on mac os x. The other illustration is my vision of Apple in the future. I think Key combinations are replaced by a single keypad, which incorporates the different combinations in single buttons. For more efficient and easy use. This Keypad is an addition to your normal keyboard, and can be bought at every Apple retailer.

Manifesto

My Manifesto is about the UK, I found it, especially in the beginning very hard because of all the subtle differences. That’s why I made this canvas, it’s an abstract form of the UK, composed with keywords from my manifesto. It is spray painted on the canvas, as if it were graffiti. I choose to do it this way because it is a negative message. And graffiti is mostly seen as negative, made the title a different color so that it really stands out. I chose kaki green and smoke grey because these colors are guerrilla like.

Barli bv

We did all the outdoor advertisement of Barli bv. This includes the logo on the building, banners, stickers, signing, and routing. You’ll see a banner that I developed for Barli bv and Peter Peters bv. Instead of a normal banner/flag, that always points to the wrong direction. Or can’t be read because it’s seen in reflection. Its static, fancy and most functional. Furthermore we designed the interiour of the office building. We even designed the stairs completely. And as we speak we are developing an Folder with all the crucial information about this company, we even shoot the product photo’s our selves.

Night Photography

This was a school assignment at Sint Lucas. Take pictures at night, they do not have to form a series. water11.jpgbrug21.jpgbrug1.jpg3heere1.jpgwater2.jpg
